Nine year old Benjamin has taken a new interest in juggling after watching this amazing juggling finale that has been floating around cyberspace. The fellow in the video is actually a comedian who uses his juggling act as to end his show. Our family is quite amazed at his ability to keep the beat of the music.
Anyhow, our aspiring juggler has been very busy practicing these days. We have brought out our well-read copy of The Clown of God by Tomie de Paola and I have ordered a few books from our local library: The Usborne Book of Juggling, The Little Book of Juggling, and The Instant Juggling Book. I think we will save the plates, knives and burning torches for another day...
Christopher, in the next ring, is our resident cowboy. He has been playing cowboy daily since last summer, finally getting the "duds" on his birthday. He is busy with a new venture...trick roping! Yes, you heard it correctly, someone has given that child a rope! Not only has he been attempting the stunts in Roy Roger's Trick Roping Book, but he has also been seen tying up his sister and brother as prisoners (in all charity of course). The other day I looked out back only to catch a glimpse of him swinging from the playhouse like Tarzan. Some of his favorite cowboy books are out of print treasures like the Cowboy Sam series by Edna Walker Chandler, The Brave Cowboy by Joan Walsh Anglund and Roy Rogers and the Mountain Lion.
Who needs the circus with talented children like these? We have our own entertainment right here! I am off to make some popcorn, put my feet up and enjoy the show. Now if only Mike could learn to ride a unicycle....
